DESCRIPTION:Program for Homeless Artists Unveils Exhibition of Male Nudes The
Community Arts Program at Hospitality House is unveiling a new exhibition
of male nude paintings by “Seth the Artist.” This solo exhibit will be
on display at the Hospitality House Studio/Gallery, located at 146
Leavenworth St. near Turk. Artwork will be on display throughout April
2006. An opening reception will be held from 5-7pm on Friday April 14.
Admission is free. According to Seth the Artist, “the paintings will
serve male nudes, front and back, with hands, lips, eyes and crosses for
more diversity. All work is in living color making the viewer react and
think about what is inside of them.” Seth is a self-taught artist from
NYC where he was known as a fierce chef, performing artist and fashion
designer. He came to the West Coast to find other hidden talents and to
live out his destiny with an artistic blast. The exhibit is sponsored by
the Community Arts Program at Hospitality House which provides creative
expression for homeless, formerly-homeless, and low-income individuals in
the Tenderloin. The Community Arts Program offers a workshop, fine art
materials, instruction and exhibits at no cost to participants. Based in
one of San Francisco’s poorest neighborhoods, this award-winning program
provides an opportunity for creative expression and economic empowerment to
people who would otherwise be unable to create artwork. The program
provides a 100% commission to artist-participants on the sale of their
artwork. The Community Arts Program is one of several programs run by
Central City Hospitality House to support the homeless community in San
Francisco's Tenderloin district. Other Hospitality House programs include
a drop-in self help center, an employment program, and a shelter for
homeless men. Since 1967, Hospitality House has used these programs along
with peer-led programs and advocacy efforts to empower homeless and
low-income people and unite their voices to stimulate social change. \n
