DESCRIPTION:The Santa Cruz Guerilla Drive-In presents The Gadabout Traveling Film
Festival Thursday March 16 at 8pm at the Bike Church, 703 S. Pacific Ave.
What's the Gadabout All About? The Gadabout is a nationally touring film
festival that screens a program of 20+ international short films.
Independent in every sense, these films share the same willingness to
challenge the conventions set for filmmaking. The Gadabout is a
distribution avenue for truly indie filmmakers that distrust Hollywood and
the commercial film festival circuit. We are NOT a competition, rather a
celebration of what is possible in independent film and video. Above all,
the Gadabout is super cool. We tour in a van, and show amazing films to our
new friends we get to meet while traveling. We have completed 3 national
tours and have screened the works of filmmakers from all over the country,
and the world (India, Singapore, Australia, Argentina, Isreal, and the
U.K.). Independent in every sense, these films share the same willingness
to challenge the conventions set for commercial filmmaking. This is
filmmaking as art, entertainment, and fun. Again, it's happening: Thursday
March 16th at 8pm at the Bike Church (703 S. Pacific Ave.) and Santa Cruz
showing is supported by the Santa Cruz Guerilla Drive-In! The Free Skool
DIY Filmmaking Workshop Also, go to the Gadabout DIY Filmmaking class
offered through Free Skool Santa Cruz. The course will focus on a brief
overview of most aspects involved with film/video making (writing,
shooting, editing, scoring, acting, directing, etc.) The goal will be to
shoot and edit a short film, which may be shown at the film festival the
next evening. Wednesday March 15, 7pm at the BYH, 742 N Branciforte Ave.
The Program Our new program for 2005-2006. More films to be added... Into
The Night Black Rice Live action mixed with digital animation. Black
Rice, a rock band from Vancouver, are the only ones we can call on to stop
the oncoming attack by mechanical vampires This is For Betsy Hall Hope
Hall An impressionistic montage of stills, projected video, underwater
footage and an intimate phone conversation, this deeply personal film was
crafted as a gift for the filmmaker’s mother, who has struggled all her
life with anorexia and bulimia. Frog Christopher Conforti This animated
tale is of one frog’s troublesome attempt to get from an unknown
territory back to the pond. Why I Love Shoplifting from Big Corporations
Frank Lopez, SubMedia How a young American survives in a world dominated
by corporations. Inspired by crimethinc’s ‘Day’s of War, Nights of
Love.’ Tales of Mere Existence Lev Live drawn animation narrated by
the creator. This watches much like a comic strip reads. I Oversee the
Maintenance of a Toll Shed Funtime Entertainment The Gadabout would not
be the same every year without a Funtime movie. They’ve really stepped
it up this year with their new film about a young man and his job
overseeing the maintenance of a tool shed. Seven Punches
TroyPrideProductions Seven Punches is seven short films that have gone
back to the basics of TroyPride movies. They don’t make much sense, but
there isn’t too much time to invest. Trina’s Collection Ellen Lake
This short documentary celebrates Trina Robbins (writer/producer of Go
Girl! Comics) and her eclectic collections: girl action figures, super
heroines, vintage aprons, rubber bath tub toys, saints, tikis, hawaiiana,
and more. Robot Boy Ted Passon A young boy is born to two very
particular parents who try to improve his less-than-perfect human parts
with robot parts. Nelson: Rock and Roll Detectives Jay Barba & Brian
Farrelly Those glam-metal icons of the 80’s, Matew and Gunner Nelson,
are hard-rockin’, identical twin private eyes. In “Close Encounters Of
A Nelson Kind,” the golden-haired duo investigate a mysterious UFO
sighting and are drawn into a deadly intergalaztic war that threatens the
very fate of the music world itself. Memento Mori Jossie Malis An old
man is locked inside an elevator. When he's losing his hope to get out,
something will change his destiny forever. I’m Not Sleepy Jossie Malis
The history of a lost man against its will and a strange guy who notices
him on the dangers of his life. NW Film Center Festival Trailers Nick
Peterson Trailers for the Northwest Film Center film and video festival,
2004. Fragile David Cumbo A brilliantly animated psychological journey
of a young child coping with the death of his older sibling. A L’ami
Imagine Laurent Pernot About the question of homosexuality in France
these last years. Dealing with exclusion and loneliness. The Gadabout
