DESCRIPTION:We Interrupt This Empire... Film Screening Benefit on the 3-year
anniversary of the Iraq war March 18th – 6-7:30pm Women's Building,
3543 18th Street, San Francisco Suggested donation: $5.00 students,
$10.00 regular – no one turned away for lack of funds Proceeds will go
to producing an Independent Media documentary on Todd Chretien's "Million
Votes for Peace" Green Party campaign for US Senate against pro-war
incumbent Sen. Diane Feinstein. Filmmakers will be in attendance and a few
words will spoken by local anti-war activists Three years after the
invasion of Iraq, our resistance continues as over one hundred thousand
Iraqis have been killed along with over 2,200 soldiers. All of the lies for
going to war against Iraq have been exposed. There were no weapons of mass
destruction or connections to Al-Qaeda as claimed by Bush and voted on by
the Congress. The anti-war movement knew the reasons for going to Iraq were
lies as they protested on the streets leading up to the invasion and the
weeks proceeding. The only weapons of mass destruction that have been seen
in Iraq are the ones used by the United States military as it drops bombs
on Iraqis and destroys whole cities like Fallujah. More than ever, the tens
of thousands of people who were against this war in the first place, along
with people who now see through the lies, need to build a movement against
the deadly occupation of Iraq. We can draw inspiration from this film that
helps us remember our recent history of resistance on the streets of San
Francisco. We must put the billions of dollars spent on the war back into
our communities. "We Interrupt This Empire..." is a collaborative work by
many of the Bay Area's independent video activists which documents the
direct actions that shut down the financial district of San Francisco in
the weeks following the United States' invasion of Iraq. With the audio
backdrop including live broadcasts of Enemy Combatant Radio from the SF
Independent Media, the documentary takes a look at the diverse show of
resistance from the streets of San Francisco as well as providing a
critique of the corporate media coverage of the war and exploring such
issues as the Military Industrial Complex, attack on civil liberties, and
the United States' current imperialist drive. The San Francisco Bay Area
Video Activist Network presents the story you won't see on Fox News: an
eye-popping, jaw-dropping look at the Bay Area's radical resistance to an
illegal war. The Video Activist Network is an informal association of
activists and politically conscious artists using video to support social,
economic and environmental justice campaigns. Winner - Best of the Bay -
