 Ambassador Roberto Abdenur was named Brazil's ambassador to the United 
 States by President Lula da Silva in April of 2004. Born in Rio de Janeiro 
 in 1942, Abdenur went on to study law at the Pontifical Catholic University 
 of Rio de Janeiro, and later economics at the London School of Economics.  
 A career diplomat, he has held a variety of positions at the Ministry for 
 External Relations in Brasilia, including Deputy Minister for External 
 Relations. Abroad, Abdenur has also served as Ambassador to Ecuador, China, 
 Germany, and Austria. He speaks Portuguese, Spanish, English, French, and 
 German, and is married with three children.  Event: Brazil is the economic 
 powerhouse of South America and quickly growing as a world player.  Many 
 people may not be aware, but the United States has tremendous economic 
 stakes in Brazil.  As of 2004, the US had more investment in Brazil than in 
 either China or Mexico, and Banking investments in Brazil were greater than 
 those in Asia. Of the top 500 companies in the United States, 420 had
