DESCRIPTION:A Fair Housing Symposium is being held in April in recognition of National 
 Fair Housing Month and sponsored by Project Sentinel.  Project Sentinel is 
 one of the largest fiar housing agencies in the nation, investigfating over 
 600 complaints of housing discrimination each year in 5 counties throughout 
 Northern California.    Symposium will include four workshops:  Litigating 
 Fair Housing:  Strategies for winning cases of housing discrimination  This 
 workshop will discuss the role of litigation in furthering the cause of 
 fair housing and will include discussion of recent cases as well as updates 
 on important developments in precedents and case law.  Accommodating 
 special needs:  Fair housing for people with disabilities  This workshop 
 will delve into the intricacies of reasonable accommodations and reasonable 
 modifications for persons with disabilities, including the issue of 
 financial burden, the process of conciliation and several instructive 
 examples.  Borrow without sorrow:  The dangers of unfair and predatory 
 lending  This workshop aims to educate lenders, service providers, and 
 advocates about unfair and predatory lending practices, including examples 
 of common schemes and the role of enforcement agencies.    Preventing 
 discrimination:  understanding fair housing laws and enforcement  This 
 workshop will discuss the origin and contents of federal and state fair 
 housing laws, including an explanation of the role of private and 
 governmental fair housing organizations as well as ways to identify and 
 solve fair housing issues as housing or service providers.    Workshop will 
 be followed by a luncheon and Keynote Speaker, Dr. Okianer Christian Dark, 
 Associate Dean of Academic Affairs and Professor of Law at Howard 
 University School of Law in Washington, D.C.  \n
