DESCRIPTION:Featuring film and photography by Natalia Leite and Short films by Amy
Harrison. Additional artists TBA Displacement, cultural identity, and
the fluidity of meaning are the focus of a collection of photographs by
artist Natalia Leite on exhibit at Femina Potens Gallery from January
21st-26, 2006. An abstract narrative investigates the complexity of binary
oppositions; a study of how their relationships create and alter their
significance in indefinable, ambiguous ways. Femina Potens invites the
community to a free closing reception with the Leite on Thursday, January
26th, 7-10pm at Femina Potens Gallery. Natalia Cerqueira Leite grew up in
Sao Paulo, Brazil, and moved to San Francisco in 2002. In the past three
years, she has accomplished several short videos and films, most of which
are staged and performed by herself. In 2003 she won the Kodak Grant
Award, which has helped her continue to fund her own work. Femina Potens
is a nationally recognized art gallery and performance space dedicated to
the advancement of women and trans-folk through art. Sponsored by Sister
Spit and the Queer Cultural Center, with support from the San Francisco
Arts Commission and the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, Femina Potens is
one of the leading queer organizations in San Francisco. Femina Potens has
been featured on the Australian television show, Out and About,
Q-Television, the documentary TranArchy, Japan's Foil Magazine, Bitch
Magazine, and the San Francisco Guardian, which called Femina Potens a
 crucial bit of justice.\n
