DESCRIPTION:The Community Arts Program at Hospitality House is unveiling a new
exhibition of sculpture and ceramics by homeless artists in San Francisco.
The exhibit, New Resolutions in Clay, will be on display at Ruby’s Clay
Studio and Gallery, located at 552 Noe near 18th Street. Artwork will be
on display from January 18 through January 30, 2006. Participating artists
will be on-hand for an opening reception from 5:30-6:30pm on Friday January
20th. Admission is free. New Resolutions in Clay is timed to open with
the start of 2006, and it represents our hopes and aspirations for the New
Year. The exhibit is sponsored by the Community Arts Program at
Hospitality House which provides creative expression for homeless,
formerly-homeless, and low-income individuals in the Tenderloin. The
Community Arts Program offers a workshop, fine art materials, instruction
and exhibits at no cost to participants. Based in one of San Francisco’s
poorest neighborhoods, this award-winning program provides an opportunity
for creative expression and economic empowerment to people who would
otherwise be unable to create artwork. The program provides a 100%
commission to artist-participants on the sale of their artwork. The
Community Arts Program is one of several programs run by Central City
Hospitality House to support the homeless community in San Francisco's
Tenderloin district. Other Hospitality House programs include a drop-in
self help center, an employment program, and a shelter for homeless men.
Since 1967, Hospitality House has used these programs along with peer-led
programs and advocacy efforts to empower homeless and low-income people and
unite their voices to stimulate social change. \n
