DESCRIPTION:Buildings consume vast quantities of our resources, including 40% of all
energy, 2/3 of electricity, almost half of our softwoods, and contribute
30% of solid landfill waste. Green Building employs a variety of techniques
to address the environmental impacts of construction and living. Berkeley
architects Mark Gorrell and Greg VanMechelen will show a variety of methods
to improve your home or business construction project, including energy
use, materials selection, and indoor air quality. Alternative building and
energy systems, including rammed earth, strawbale, cob, solar energy and
wind power as well as mainstream methods will be discussed. Bring your
questions, plans, and creative energy. \nFrom 10am to 1pm at the Ecology
Center, 2530 San Pablo Avenue, Berkeley. Cost is $10 for Ecology Center
members, $15 for others, no one turned away for lack of funds. Info and
 registration: 510-548-2220 x233.\n
