DESCRIPTION:International Campaign to Hold Coca-Cola Accountable Join us for events
in San Francisco and Berkeley to learn more about the growing campaign
against the Coca-Cola company for its violations of human rights,
workers’ rights, and the environment in Colombia, India and globally.
Speakers include William Mendoza, Vice-President of Sinaltrainal (Food and
Beverage Workers' Union) in Colombia and Amit Srivastava, Coordinator of
India Resource Center. Monday, November 14 12 pm – 2 pm San
Francisco State University, Jack Adams Hall, Student Center 7 pm – 9
pm University of California Berkeley, Wheeler Hall 110 Since 1989,
eight union leaders belonging to Sinaltrainal (Food and Beverage Workers'
Union) have been murdered for their union activities in Coca-Cola bottling
plants in Colombia. Coca-Cola has been charged in US federal courts with
complicity in the murder, torture and intimidation of labor organizers in
Coca-Cola bottling plants in Colombia. In India, a massive
community-led movement has emerged across the country to hold Coca-Cola
accountable for its crimes, including creating severe water scarcity,
polluting the groundwater and land, distributing toxic waste as fertilizer
to farmers, and selling drinks in India with high levels of pesticides.
One of Coca-Cola’s largest bottling plants has been shut down as a result
of community pressure. For more information, visit
