 (http://happyfeettravels.org/index.php/soundlabsf/246i-world-remix/ ) is a
concert series celebrating music traditions from around the world and all
the cross-cultural collaborations flourishing in the global community.
While respecting the sources of musical traditions, World Remix also wants
to recognize the fusion that blends those sources. The event also seeks to
bring awareness to the issues facing the peoples in the featured regions.
Past World Remix concerts have featured Yair Dalal, Lumin, and the Ali Khan
Band and have raised awareness of issues of immigration, national borders,
and the struggle between Israel and Palestine. SoundLabSF (
 http://happyfeettravels.org/index.php/soundlabsf/ ) seeks to create
community through collaboration, experimentation, performance, recording,
and distribution of sound. The SoundLab enriches both its own work and the
surrounding community by developing artistic projects and educational
programs that cultivate a voice of independent culture(s). Voice of Roma (
http://www.voiceofroma.com/index.html ). The primary objectives and
purposes of this nonprofit corporation are to organize, promote, and
provide educational and charitable projects for and about Roma. Their goal
is to provide Roma, with a special emphasis on the inclusion of Romani
women, with a voice, in their local communities, as well as nationally and
 internationally. The Brass Menagerie ( http://www.huzzam.com/brass.shtml )
is the Bay Area's premier Balkan Brass band, performing high-energy,
sometimes stretchy, always exciting music of Serbia, Greece, Macedonia,
Bulgaria, Balkan Roma & friends. We specialize in Serbian brass repertoire,
as well as brass music of the Greek/Macedonian border region. In the
tradition of the great Rom brass bands, we also exhibit influences from
many other musics of the world. Jef Stott aka DJ Oud, (
http://jefstott.com/ ) producer, performer and composer has been deftly
navigating the realms of the global remix for over a decade. As a producer,
he has released projects for MC RAI, LUMIN, and STELLAMARA. As a musical
anthropologist, he has studied with master musicians from Morocco, Algeria,
Egypt, Iran and Turkey which led him to become accomplished on several
traditional stringed and percussion instruments of the Middle East. His new
record label EMBARKA RECORDS will release new titles from MC RAI as well as
his own work and remixes. DJ Sep ( HYPERLINK
 "http://www.dubmissionsf.com/index.html"
http://www.dubmissionsf.com/index.html ) has spun on Bay Area radio since
1988, starting at college radio station, KUSF. She has also spun at clubs
throughout the Bay. She is the founder of "Dub Mission," a Sunday-night dub
club at Elbo Room, which was started in 1996 as an alternative to a typical
reggae club, focusing on the more cutting edge side of reggae music, that
is, dub and progressive roots. DJ Amar ( HYPERLINK
 "http://bansuri.net/solunamar/djamar.html"
http://bansuri.net/solunamar/djamar.html ) is amongst a handful of local
DJs whose taste cuts a path through an abundance of musical selections and
leads dancefloors into a hypnotic sway like snakes before the charmer. In
this instance the muse is a masala that stews sounds from the Middle East
and Africa with rhythms of the Asian underground and electric Brazilian
vibes. Whether its bhangra, house, drum n bass or downtempo the global
nature of Amar’s sets bridges a multi-culti span from the world to the
Bay Area. Sani (Shani) Rifati is a Rom from Kosovo, former Yugoslavia and
is the president of Voice of Roma. He is an International Human Rights
Monitor, a writer, a speaker, the producer of the annual Herdeljez
Festival, a dummer, a dancer, and a teacher. Sani has helped educate and
raise the awareness of the public here concerning the Romani folk arts, he
has been a strong advocate for preserving the traditional folk music,
songs, and dances of his culture. He is a strong believer in creating
community through his people’s spirit of sharing music, dance, oral
 histories, food and drink.\n
