DESCRIPTION:The purpose of this class is to provide an opportunity to explore options
for generating self-employment, and to maximize their chances for success.
The focus of the class will be on creating small, local, profit or
non-profit enterprises, although the principles learned are also applicable
for growing larger businesses. There are three primary means through which
we will pursue this purpose: · Every class will include an interview with
an environmentally and socially responsible entrepreneur, so students can
be exposed to and learn from a variety of business models and “real
life” experiences. · Each class will also include instruction on the
skills required to create an enterprise, including strategic planning,
marketing and basic accounting. · Students will be responsible for
generating, by themselves or with a team, a business plan for a local
enterprise in an area of interest. We will also discuss the ecological,
economic and social merits of creating self-reliant local economies, and
explore both conventional and alternative business structures. $250. Info:
