 screening\nand discussion of "David Gilbert: A Lifetime of Struggle." One 
 of the\nvideo's editors, Claude Marks, will be present for questions\nand 
 feedback.\n\nDESCRIPTION  OF VIDEO:\nDavid Gilbert is an anti-imperialist 
 political prisoner presently being\nheld in the notorious Attica Prison. He 
 was raised in the Boston area\nwhere  he began working against the Viet Nam 
 war and for Black civil\nrights during  his teenage years.  He became a 
 leader of the\nColumbia University student  strike and Students for a 
 Democratic\nSociety. David was part of a great  social upheaval--in 1969, 
 120 cities\nburned in Black uprisings, and in the  same period 400 
 campuses\norganized student strikes against the Viet Nam  War. In the 1970s 
 he\njoined the Weather Underground Organization and worked\nunderground for 
 a decade.\n\nDavid is serving a sentence of 75 years to life--a life 
 sentence without\npossibility of parole. Along with others, he was 
 convicted on a\nconspiracy  charge for his participation in a 1981 Brink's 
 truck hold-up\naiming to  raise funds for the Black Liberation Army.\n\nIn 
 prison for more than 20 years, David has continued his work for\nsocial 
 justice.  Very early, he called attention to the AIDS epidemic in\nAfrica 
 and in oppressed communities in the US, and organized\nprisoner peer 
 education programs on AIDS.  He is an advocate for\nprisoners. David is a 
 prolific writer, and is now compiling a book of his\nwritings.  He is a 
 devoted father and friend.\n\nThis interview took place in July, 1998 at
