DESCRIPTION:You're invited to rally with Professor and Investigative Journalist Bob
Fitrakis and Attorney and East Bay community leader Walter Riley
Tuesday, August 2, at 10 a.m. at the Alameda County Board of Supervisors.
Let's celebrate Secretary of State McPherson's action to withold
certification from Diebold, and let's ask the Board of Supervisors to
rescind their hasty and inappropriate action of June 28 (see below).
Please also send your email and phone messages to the Supervisors. Check
 http://www.co.alameda.ca.us/board/index.htm for contact information for
each of them. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Diebold's TouchScreen and Paper Audit
Trail technology have been found defective and unfit for use in California!
This is the technology that the Board of Supervisors on June 28 directed
the Registrar of Voters to negotiate to purchase! Ask the Board to rescind
this directive! When: Tuesday, August 2, 10:00 a.m. Where: 1221 Oak
Street Oakland, CA. Please rally at the Alameda County administration
building, home of the Alameda County Board of Supervisors, to: 1. Ask the
Board of Supervisors to rescind their action of June 28 directing the
Registrar of Voters to negotiate a contract with Diebold for additional
election technology. 2. Ask the Board instead to permit and direct the
Registrar of Voters to maximize the use of voter verified paper ballots in
the upcoming November election and to seek information from other vendors,
especially those using open source software. 3. Ask the Board to meet with
a nonpartisan group of Bay Area computer election security experts to learn
about the vulnerabilities of electronic voting systems. How many
California Secretaries of State does it take to convince Alameda County to
stop using Diebold technology? Kevin Shelley decertified the Diebold TSx
last year. Now Bruce McPherson has withheld certification from the Diebold
TSx and its paper trail printer. Looking forward to seeing you there and
 then. \n https://www.indybay.org/newsitems/2005/08/01/72303.php
