DESCRIPTION:Hosted by: The City of Oakland Oakland Police Department
Brother2Brother/Sister2Sister, Inc. East Bay Music Under Development On
 Tuesday August 2, 2005 from 7pm to 9pm, Downtown Oakland’s Jackson Street
with its brownstones and tree-lined lakeside views will play host to the
first annual “Jackson Street Family Block Party!” Research shows that
neighborhoods are safer when residents know each other. This is your
invitation to strengthen your neighborhood by participating in this Block
Party that will bring your neighbors together. Each registered block party
will receive a visit from police officers, fire fighters, or other city
staff to talk with neighbors and to pass out give-away items.
 Brother2Brother/Sister2Sister, Inc. is a community-based organization
holistically serving people living with HIV/AIDS and other chronic/terminal
illnesses plus the larger community with prevention and education efforts.
Since B2B/S2S projects began in 2001, we have served over 10,000 people
with one-to-one support, local social gatherings, care/treatment referrals,
graphic/video/WWWeb design campaigns, Yahoo! Groups with Internet sites and
email servers, and outreach at bay area community-level events. We’ve
done a lot. None of it has been done alone. It truly does take the entire
village to meet the needs. Local merchants are participating by provided
raffle items, food and drink. A variety of Community service organizations
will be on hand to inform residents of important social services available
locally. Speakers have been invited to highlight the importance of
anti-violence efforts, good citizenship, and community policing. Mellow
live and Deejay musical entertainment provided by local artists produced by
Matt Price’s East Bay Music Under Development. Residents are being asked
to play a more active role in our own and each other’s safety. A
petition will be circulated to establish zoning of Jackson Street from 14th
to 17th streets and the 15th Street Corridor for residential parking
stickers, which currently save residents thousands of dollars annually.
This signing effort has failed several times in the past for lack of
support. The Jackson Street Block Party! is being coordinated by Mr. Wil
Oliver, longtime Bay Artist for Social Change, along with Mr. Matthew
 Price, Music Producer. \n
