DESCRIPTION: ***TAKE ACTION NOW*** Please Distribute\n\nPlease join us for a press
conference and generally noisy\n event on the steps of SF's City Hall -
 Monday May 6 Noon\n\nWITH\n\nWillie Ratcliff-Publisher SF Bayview, Bruce\n
 Brugmann-Publisher SF Guardian, Davey-D - former PA\n director at
ClearChannel radio station KMEL-FM and others!\n\nMedia behemoth
ClearChannel Communications - one of the\n largest\nand most criticized
media companies in the U.S. - isn't\n content with dominating the nation's
radio airwaves,\n billboards, and concert venues. On Monday, in a\n
precedent-setting case with national implications, SF's\n Supervisors are
about to hand over gatekeeper status for\n the city's newspaper
distribution to\nClearChannel subsidiary Adshel - without so much as a\n
public\ncomment period.\n\nIt's troubling enough that elected
representatives would\n allow a for- profit corporation to determine
which\n publications can be distributed in public spaces, and to\n allow
them to profit from the process by posting\n advertising up to 18 feet long
on the backside of the\n kiosks. But the contract is just plain awful
in\nother ways too - it locks the city into a 20 year contract\n with no
money at all from ClearChannel to pay for the\n administrative\ncosts of
the program.\n\nThis deal is not in the public's interest. It is bad for\n
our media landscape.\n\nWE DEMAND a slow-down of this process to include a
full\n public hearing on the implications of this law locally and\n
nationally, and testimony on ClearChannel's monopolistic\n and
anti-competitive policies (as thoroughly documented by\n Salon.com's Eric
Boehlert,\n\nCONTACT YOUR SUPERVISOR:\n\n Whether or not you can make it to
City Hall on Monday\n and Tuesday, PLEASE call or email at least two\n
supervisors AND TELL THEM NOT TO LET HUGE MEDIA\n CONGLOMERATES STRANGLE
