DESCRIPTION:"Aaron Glantz's courageous unembeded journalism explains the reality of the
US invasion and occupation of Iraq with a clarity and perspective sorely
lacking in mainstream media." \n- Amy Goodman, host of Democracy Now!
\n\nOCCUPATION & RESISTANCE: THE CONFLICT IN IRAQ \n\nWith Pacifica Radio
journalist and author of "How America Lost Iraq" \n\nAARON GLANTZ \n\nAnd
 Toshikuni DOI's powerful documentary film \n\n"FELLUJA 2004" \n\nWednesday,
July 20 at 7 pm \nNew College Cultural Center \n766 Valencia St, San
francisco \nFree! \n\nThe unprovoked massacre of Iraqi civilians by US
troops in Fellujah in early 2004 was a turning point in the occupation, and
an armed resistance gained wider support. Aaron Glantz, Pacifica Radio
journalist and author of "How America Lost Iraq," will speak about the
situation in Iraq followed by Toshikuni DOI's remarkable documentary film
"Felluja 2004" and a Question and Answer session. \n\nAaron Glantz is the
author of "How America Lost Iraq" (Tarcher/Penguin) and a reporter for
Pacifica Radio and other media outlets. He has visited Iraq three times
during the U.S. occupation: for a month immediately after the fall of
Saddam Hussein; from February to May 2004; and during the elections in
January of 2005. His work from Iraq has also been syndicated to newspapers
around the world by Inter Press News Service. He is a founding producer of
Pacifica Radio’s national newscast, Free Speech Radio News. In the course
of his work he has also reported from Egypt, Turkey, Jordan, South Korea,
Indonesia, India, Vietnam, France, and Denmark. Before becoming an
international reporter, Aaron served as California State Capitol reporter
for Pacifica’s flag-ship station, KPFA in Berkeley, CA, where he won the
California Journalism Award for radio in 2000. \n\n"Falluja 2004" (55
minutes with English subtitles): Japanese video documentarian Toshikuni DOI
was in Falluja two weeks after the US invasion. He was one of the few
international journalists able to show the reality of the cost of the
invasion. Falluja has become a symbol of the resistance movement against
the occupation by the US forces. In April 2004, the US forces invaded
Falluja with several thousand US soldiers. About 730 people were killed and
2800 were injured in the siege and attacks by the US military in one month.
He interviews medical workers and teachers as well as people in the
community about this horrendous assault and the cost of it for the people
of Falluja. Falluja today is off limits for all press and the US military
prevent any record of what is going on and what went on. \n\n\nSponsors:
