DESCRIPTION:It is a stark cinematic portrait of a neglected community struggling
to\nsurvive amidst gang violence, environmental issues and economic decline
in\none of the world's wealthiest cities. Set against the backdrop of a
vibrant\nHip Hop subculture, this raw and gripping film depicts a spirited
black\nghetto confronting harsh realities.\n\nWinner of the audience choice
award at SF's Black Film Festival, Straight\nOutta Hunters Point was
recognized by the San Francisco Bay Guardian with a\nGoldie Outstanding
Local Discovery award last November. Recently Epps has\npresented the film
in an educational outreach role at high schools, colleges\nand universities
including UCLA, Sonoma State, and UC Berkeley.\n\nSince screenings at
festivals in Santa Fe NM, Park City UT and elsewhere,\nthe director, in
association with Berkeley based editor Josh Callaghan have\nretooled the
film to a taught 75 minute cut.\n\nS.O.H.P will be screening each night for
 a full week at 9:15 p.m in Berkeley\nbeginning Friday May 10th - 17th at
The Fine Arts Cinema. This is also a\ngood time to visit the Fine Arts
Cinema before it closes in June for a\nconstruction project that will
darken the theater until 2004.\n\nThe film will also show again at San
Francisco's Red Vic Moviehouse May\n23rd - 27th and for one showing in San
Rafael's Film Center on May 29th.\nDirector Kevin Epps will appear at
selected screenings.\n\nMore Info and a QuickTime Trailer are online at
