DESCRIPTION:Come to a strategizing/organizing session to fight these right-wing
racists!\n\nFollowing the lead of activists in Southern California, the Bay
Area, and the immigrant, Latin@, Chican@ and indigenous communities who are
most impacted by these heinous racists, we will attempt to formulate a plan
of resistance to counter those who would divide us with borders and
selectively proclaim some human beings as “illegal.”\n\nIn April, under
the rhetoric of fighting terrorism and protecting the economy, an armed and
insidiously racist vigilante organization called the Minuteman Project
organized patrols of the Arizona border with Mexico.\n\nThese right-wing,
anti-immigrant activists and their allies are now expanding the border
patrol project to New Mexico, Texas and California. In California, one
patrol will begin on July 18, another on September 16 (intentionally
scheduled on Mexico’s Independence Day) and a third during October.
\n\nIn their words and deeds they have shown they have no qualms about
using violence. At a protest against a talk being given by Minuteman
founder Jim Gilchrist, a Minuteman supporter drove his car into a group of
demonstrators, sending two to the hospital. While he was not charged by
police, seven protesters were arrested and charged with eight felonies.
Some had bail set as high as $50,000.\n
