DESCRIPTION:Stop the Land Grab! Defend the African Community Against Ethnic Cleansing!
Community Speak-Out In Oakland and in cities across the country, African
people are being pushed out of their neighborhoods through heavy-handed
police tactics and a policy of police containment where the police are
given an open license to kill, harass, intimidate and arrest African people
in an effort to keep the African community silenced and docile. A majority
black city at the height of the Black Power Movement, African people now
represent less than 35% of Oakland’s population. The city of Oakland is
clearing out the community to facilitate a gentrifying land-grab as
speculators and regular white people flock to traditionally black
neighborhoods to buy up every piece of property they can find.. Much like
white people’s historic attack on indigenous peoples to obtain land
during the California Gold Rush and the governor’s support for the attack
on Mexican people by the Minutemen, police violence and vigilanteeism is
being encouraged by the city of Oakland. In this gold rush atmosphere, the
public policy of police containment is looking more and more like "ethnic
cleansing," With the armed elements of the State being the primary means of
carrying out the mission. Police Containment and Vigilante Violence
Encouraged and Rewarded! The city of Oakland and white homeowners rewarded
Patrick McCullough, the North Oakland vigilante, for shooting 17-year old
Melvin McHenry, whose family is being forced out of town. The city
continues to give McCullough police protection and special treatment while
supporters of the McHenry family are treated as criminals and deviants by
the city. Recent reports state that the Oakland Police Department failed
to investigate 775 complaints of misconduct to internal affairs while the
Oakland Riders, the four Oakland police officers accused of beating and
framing African people, were acquitted on more charges. Support Economic
Development and Democratic Rights for a Positive Future! The Uhuru
Movement calls on African people and their allies get to organized for
economic investment that will uplift the entire black community of Oakland.
If we want peace and unity in our city, we need to support a future for
young people like Melvin McHenry. It’s time for all of us in the white
community to stop building our lifestyle at the expense of the African
 community! \n https://www.indybay.org/newsitems/2005/06/02/68233.php
