DESCRIPTION:THE OATH Presented by Pamela and Nathan Collett This film is made in
Kenya by Kenyans to tell a story about the Mau Mau Rebellion Freedom
Fighters or Terrorists? In the 1950’s in Kenya, supporters saw the Mau
Mau as leaders in the struggle for land and freedom. The British
colonialists and their loyal supporters labelled the Mau Mau as
“terrorists.” The controversy continues to this day. The Oath tells
the story of two brothers, Mwangi and Joseph, one who supported and one who
opposed the Mau Mau. It’s is a no-budget film that was a labor of love
made by Kenyan volunteers from low-income areas surrounding Nairobi, Kenya.
It has been shown at film festivals in Burkina Faso, West Africa, and at
the Pan African Film Festival in Los Angeles. The vision of Hot Sun Films
is to develop storytelling through filmmaking in East Africa from voices
not heard. See this unique film and discuss the issues of land, freedom
and decolonisation with Pamela and Nathan. Our film series is about YOU
and YOUR participation. We welcome your input. Bring your friends!
Before and after the film, everyone’s invited to indulge in our Humanist
Coffee House. The films are FREE but $5 donations are accepted \n
