DESCRIPTION:Democracy Action Network* Presents: Honing Your Power Tools: A Media
Workshop What does the right -wing do that we progressives don't know how
to do? Why are they so effective at getting their message through, even
though their proposals and policies are mean-spirited and often wrong for
the country. Unlike most of us, they've been through media training, where
they hone their message and polish their style so it sounds the best it
can. And now you can learn some of their secrets! Sunday May 1, 2005
11AM – 3:00PM (bring a bag lunch, some snacks will be provided) Redwood
Gardens 2951 Derby Street at Belrose Berkeley, California RSVP to
Honing your Power Tools: A Media Workshop will cover: Part One (led by
Marketing Executive David Taber) will teach you how to communicate more
effectively in person, to an audience, and through the media, using
exercises and real-world examples. Part Two – Speak Up (led by Video
Producer Terry Lamb) will allow you to practice speaking your convictions
in a simulated media context. The exercise will be conducted in small
groups and will allow each person to state a position and answer questions
about that position. Democracy is about speaking up and organizing. By
remaining silent, we abandon the national political agenda to right-wing
extremists. We need to take back our voices, and our country. (Note:
There will be another meeting following ours that you may want to attend.
It’s about setting up precinct operations in the East Bay and will be led
by Wellstone Democratic Renewal Club’s Judy Pope.) Democracy Action
Network (formerly Democracy Rising) is a quarterly meeting offering
practical skills to progressive activists. It is an off-shoot of East Bay
for Democracy, a group formed by Howard Dean campaign volunteers who are
committed to progressive activism and social justice.
