DESCRIPTION:AS THE US military becomes more desperate to enlist new soldiers to send to
Iraq as cannon fodder, antiwar students are fighting back across the
country by confronting military recruiters on their campuses. The
military’s continued need for more troops for the occupations of Iraq and
Afghanistan afford the antiwar movement an opportunity to hit them where it
hurts and impede their ability to continue the occupations or launch new
invasions of other countries. Anti-recruitment movements are springing up
everywhere: Seattle, Chicago, New York, Wisconsin, Vermont, Connecticut,
Texas, Minnesota. At San Francisco State, military recruiters were forced
to leave early without any recruits because of the hundreds of students
that came out to protest. (See
 http://www.democracynow.org/article.pl?sid=05/03/18/1450222). The San
Francisco "Military Out of Our Schools" contingent for the March 19th
national day of protest was also one of the largest and most lively of the
march, boasting 350 people. The message is clear: we won’t stand for the
military using our schools to recruit soldiers, disproportionately poor and
people of color, to go fight and die in a war for oil and empire! Come
hear how we can fight the war and the military’s homophobia, racism, and
sexism and build the counter-recruitment movement on the West Coast! The
West Coast Conference of the Campus Antiwar Network on April 9th, at San
Francisco City College, will help build a strong and vibrant anti-war
movement centered around the demilitarization of our schools! The keynote
address will be given by Sean O’Neill, member of Iraq Veterans Against
the War. Educational workshops will be held on the Case Against Military
Recruitment, the Iraqi Resistance, the Struggle in Palestine, and the
History and Future of US Imperialism in the Middle East. Action-oriented
workshops will be held on "How to Kick Recruiters off your Campus," "How to
Start a CAN chapter," and “How to Organize at High Schools”. The
schedule is as follows: 9:00-9:30 Registration (donations welcome)
