DESCRIPTION:Film Series on JUDI BARI -- REDWOOD WARRIOR JUDI BARI DISCUSSES HER FBI
CASE & VIVA JUDI! Presented by Steve Jacobson: 510-776-2127 These
shorter documentaries (and several more will be available to show this
evening as well) give the background that illuminate Judi Bari’s famous
law suit against the FBI and the Oakland police. They show Judi in the
context of her work with Earth First! defending the northern forests. She
had helped Earth First! spearhead "Redwood Summer," a major, non-violent,
mass protest against corporate liquidation logging -- logging that takes
out every single tree and never looks back. She and Darryl Cherney went on
a speaking and concert tour to recruit college students for the Redwood
Summer campaign. While on tour in Oakland, a bomb exploded in the car that
she and Darryl were using. She was almost killed and Darryl was injured.
These films fill in the history of Earth First! in the forests of northern
California and depict Judi Bari’s biography. The film is free but $5
donations are accepted. Before and after the film, everyone’s invited to
indulge in our Humanist Coffee House. \n
