DESCRIPTION:Have you enjoyed spending time at Indybay.org? Do you appreciate it as a
special tool for dissemination of information about local activism and a
place to have thoughtful, respectful discussions about politics? Would you
like to know more about how the website works? Have you thought about
getting involved with the Indybay website? There will be a one-hour
Indybay website orientation Saturday, March 12th for those who would like
to help Indybay.org continue to be the useful project that it is. As we
project the website movie screen-style onto the wall, we'll be talking
about how to post news, photos, video and audio to the site. We'll discuss
things that go on behind the scenes like what happens once something is
posted to the newswire. We'll explain how and why newswire articles get
moved from the "other/breaking" section to the local or global sections.
We'll share with you how stories get made into center column features and
what types of editorial decisions are made regarding features, posts, and
comments. Indybay's points of unity state that we are "anti-capitalist"
and "anti-oppression." If these are values are in line with your own and
you find that the subject matter covered in the center columns of the
website tends to agree with your own politics, and maybe you are especially
interested in one (more more) feature page, you're more than welcome to
come to this orientation. There are no requirements as far as the amount of
time you have to offer or technical prerequisites. It's actually not that
hard to edit the site, and we can teach you everything you need to know in
a relatively short time. At Indybay's next New Volunteer Orientation, we
will explain what the site is all about, how it does it, and what kinds of
help we need. If you would like to get involved in Indybay, at any level,
come by and find out more! When: Saturday, March 12th from 11am to noon
