DESCRIPTION:Artists for Social and Political Awareness (ASPA) present: Unraveling
Gender: a gender workshop and perfomance poetry presentation by Julia
Serano. Why do men and women seem to be so different? Why do women still
report hitting a "glass ceiling" in their career at the same time that many
men perceive a "crisis of masculinity" in our society? These and other
questions will be addressed in "Unraveling Gender". Presented by Julia
Serano, a working scientist, successful writer, slam poet, and spoken word
artist, this session has been presented at numerous colleges and
conferences. An unusual combination of educational lecture and
entertainment allows Julia to effectively communicate many of the complex
concepts of Women's and Gender Studies and debunk much of the "junk
science" that plagues pop-culture's ideas of gender. Her charming and
playful delivery allow her to take on many of the myths and mysteries of
perception in a presentation that combines elements of science, poetry and
her one-woman show! ASPA events are always free and open to the public!
