DESCRIPTION:ANARCHIST ECONOMICS CLASS bi-weekly class Wed. 7:00 - 9:00 PM class
begins Feb. 2nd room 208 Upper Level Student Union, Phelan Campus, CCSF
What type of economic systems will exist in an egalitarian, self-managed
society? What have anarchism and libertarian socialism had to say about
the structure and function of such an economy? The purpose of this class
is to provide a forum for discussion in an attempt to answer these
questions. We will start by defining capitalism and with an overview of
economic theory from an anarchist perspective. We will then discuss one
such economic framework, participatory economics (parecon), in
considerable detail. Once we have a good grasp on the parecon model, we
will discuss some of the specific criticisms levelled against it, as well
as other visions for an egalitarian society such as libertarian communism
and libertarian municipalism. Along with several provided articles, we
will be reading "Parecon" by Michael Albert. The book will be made
available for purchase, but the entire text is also available for free on
the internet. This will be a bi-weekly discussion class beginning
Wednesday, February 2nd (7pm to 9pm), and lasting throughout the Spring
semester. AS ALWAYS YOU DO NOT NEED TO BE ENROLLED AS A STUDENT AT CCSF TO
ATTEND EITHER OF THESE CLASSES. \n
