 “La Zafra—The Sugar Cane Harvest”   In La Zafra, on exhibit at the 
 Center for Latin American Studies, photojournalist Tino Soriano focuses his 
 lens on the plight of Haitians at work in the sugar cane fields of the 
 Dominican Republic.  “The sugar with which we sweeten our lives also 
 contains bitter ingredients: slavery, hunger, intolerable sanitary 
 conditions and, above all, thousands of campesinos trapped in misery 
 without the possibility of starting a new life.” — Tino Soriano  Join 
 us for the photographer’s talk, followed by an opening reception.
