DESCRIPTION:Progressives Unite on Stanford Campus for Counter-Inauguration STANFORD,
CA – In a sweeping collaboration, progressive student groups of Stanford
University are coming together for a common purpose. They will hold a
Stand Up for Change rally January 20 from noon to 1pm in White Plaza on
Stanford’s campus. It will be a chance for progressives to commit to
positive action in the next four years, as George Bush is inaugurated in
Washington, D.C. Groups involved include the Stanford Labor Action
Coalition, the Greens at Stanford, and one of the nation’s largest active
College Democrats, the Stanford Dems. Speakers include Larry Everest,
author of “Oil, Power and Empire: Iraq and the U.S. Global Agenda.”
Students are organizing the event to re-energize both the campus and
local progressive community. Representatives from the various groups will
speak during the rally about the many ways to be proactively involved in
fighting for their respective issues. Marie Jones, President of the
Stanford Dems and one of the event organizers, reiterates this positive
emphasis. “It’s essential to keep students involved in the
post-election environment and to keep hope alive.” Students
hope this event will appeal not only to the Stanford community, but also to
locals hoping to take action in the next four years. At the rally, there
will be more information about other progressive activities on campus
 throughout the day.\n
