DESCRIPTION:BLACK AUGUST ORGANIZING COMMITTEE FUNDRAISER Presented by Shaka
At-thinnin This evening the Black August Organizing Committee and the
Prisoners of Conscience Committee (POCC) -- which produces the Block
Report Radio Show on KPOO an KPFA Radio -- join together to raise funds in
order to hold the 26th Annual Black August Benefit next August 2005. This
evening’s program features two noted speakers: Fred Hampton Jr., Chairman
of the Chicago Chapter of the POCC, and Tarika Lewis, the first woman to
join the Black Panthers. Also on the program, the 40-minute, eye-opening
documentary film, The Assassination of Fred Hampton, will be shown. And
dinner will be served for a $5 donation. Every year, the Annual Black
August Benefit commemorates political prisoners who have died in prison and
acknowledges and aids those still being held captive. All year round, the
Black August Organizing Committee works in communities to heal and
strengthen them to stem the tide of youth falling victim to the prison
 industrial complex. \n
