DESCRIPTION:  Women's Rights are Worker's Rights!  Roundtable discussion  January 27 at 
 5:30pm  SEIU  Local 535  447 29th St  Oakland    Join Local 535,  Labor 
 Project for Working Families, UC Berkeley Labor  Center, East Bay  
 Coalition for Labor Union Women, Pride at Work and the  AFL-CIO for an  
 organizer's roundtable with organizers from India, South  Africa, Thailand 
 and  the US.  The organizers will share their innovative  strategies for  
 organizing women working in informal and nonstandard work.  In India, the  
 700,000 member Self-Employed Women's Association (SEWA) of  India organizes 
  incense rollers, street vendors, rag pickers and salt  producers in a 
 movement  that has created a network of services to support  the needs of 
 informal  workers.  In South Africa, the Self-Employed Women's  Union 
 (SEWU)  organizes and negotiates contracts for street vendors and the  
 Women's Farm  Project organizes rural women workers.  HomeNet Thailand  
 organizes  homebased workers and works with similar organizations 
 throughout  the  world.  Together, these women are organizing women workers 
 to  protect  their rights as women and as workers in their workplaces and 
 the  global  economy.  Refreshments will be served.  For more  information
