DESCRIPTION: \nConference/Discussion/Debate\n\nLABOR, THE ENVIRONMENT AND PUBLIC
 POWER\n\nSunday October 14, 2001 9:30AM-3:00PM\n\nILWU Local 34\n5 Berry
 St./Embarcadero (Next To Pacbell Stadium)\nSan Francisco\n\n\nThe
deregulation of energy over the last 5 years has led not only to the layoff
of tens of thousands of unionized energy workers throughout the country but
a growing chaos in price and supply of electricity and gas. It has
threatened the ability of working people and small business people to pay
their bills and keep in business. This policy of deregulation has also
caused an alleged "shortage of energy". What are the real facts about this
so called shortage of energy and what should labor and the
environmental\nmovement be doing about this issue?\nShall the trade union
movement base it's policies on the agenda of the oil and energy companies
or does it need it's own program both to defend unionized jobs and to
protect the environment. Will these issues be addressed at the national
AFL-CIO convention the first week in December in Las Vegas?\nJoin us in
this timely conference to discuss and debate these issues and to map out a
possible national program for working people and environmentalists that
will set the agenda for the future.\n\nPresenters:\n\nDan Berman, Author of
