DESCRIPTION:Mon. Oct. 25 7:30 pm Marijuana Vs. the Supreme Court -Berkeley The
Coalition for a Democratic Pacifica invites you to a panel discussion on
Marijuana Vs. the Supreme Court - A discussion on upcoming legal challenges
and related issues. Panelists include: Dr. Mike Alcalay: Medical
director of the Oakland Cannabis Buyers Cooperative, an organization
challenged in the Supreme Court case. Dr Tod Mikuriya: Author of
"Marijuana: Medical Information" and Director of investigations on
marijuana for the National Institute of Mental Health, U.S.A. 1967
including recent activities and works. Dr. Ed Rosenthal: " The most
harmful and dangerous aspect of marijuana is governmental regulation. The
laws that prohibit the use of marijuana with medical aims constitute cruel
and un-usual punishment that inflicts on the victims of the diseases."
Mrs. Angel Raich:The lead plaintiff in a lawsuit (Raich v. Ashcroft) filed
against the US Attorney General. (On December 16, 2003, the Ninth Circuit
Court of Appeals in San Francisco issued an opinion reversing and remanding
the case Raich v. Ashcroft to the district court with instructions to enter
a preliminary injunction, as sought by the patients and caregivers. The
Federal Government is challenging this decision because it bars federal
drug agents from interfering with the growing and use of marijuana by two
California women (Angel Raich of Oakland and Diane Monson of Oroville in
Butte County). Berkeley Fellowship of Unitarian Universalists Church,
