DESCRIPTION:The International Indian Treaty Council and the American Indian 
 Contemporary Arts present:  Indigenous Peoples Day (Dia de la Raza), 
 October 11, 2004, Annual Sun-Rise Gathering at Alcatraz Island to celebrate 
 our survival and challenge the myths of Discovery of America!  The General 
 Public is invited to attend the annual Sun-Rise Gathering at Alcatraz 
 Island on Monday, October 11, 2004 (State Holiday) to commemorate 512 years 
 (1492-2004) of Indigenous Peoples Resistance to Colonization in the 
 Americas!  The theme of “Resistance to Colonization” and Indigenous 
 Peoples’ struggles for Self-Determination, Treaty Rights, Protection of 
 Sacred Sites, Lands and Resources, Traditional Knowledge and subsistence 
 rights are the messages of this historic occasion. No to military industry, 
 Yes to a Culture of Peace, and an End to Racism in the Americas!  Join with 
 us on this day as we dedicate ourselves to the Dances of Liberation and 
 Songs of freedom, and remember those who have sacrificed their lives for us 
 to be here today. A tobacco blessing to the fire will be given and prayers 
 will be offered for the coming generations.  Place: Fisherman’s Wharf, 
 Blue and Gold Fleet, Pier . 41  Tickets: $ 11.00 (children under 5 free)  
 Time: Ticket booths open at 5 am – The boat leaves at 5:45 am and returns 
 before 9 am  MC: Bill Means, Oglala Lakota, IITC Board Member, co-founder 
 and special guest  Wheel chair accessible, minimal parking, wear something 
 warm.  Children, Youth and College students especially welcomed.

 and Singers: All Nations Singers/Azteca traditional dancers, Pomo dancers, 
 and the Costanoan-Rumsen Carmel Humaya Singers/dancers, Grupo Maya and
