DESCRIPTION:"ME AND THE OWL" FILM SCREENING AND DISCUSSION  Fundraiser for the East 
 Asia-US-Puerto Rico Women's  Network Against Militarism Philippines Meeting 
  November 2004  Saturday, October 16, 2-5:00 pm  110 Barrows Hall, UC 
 Berkeley  Sliding Scale: $5-$20  (No one will be turned away for lack of 
 funds.)  This film depicts the daily existence and struggles of  survivors 
 of military prostitution in Korea. The  title, "Me and the Owl," is from 
 one of the  survivor's artworks. The "owl" symbolizes a woman in  
 prostitution who only comes out at night. But this  documentary shows the 
 life of an "owl" who  comes out in the daylight.  With special guest 
 speaker YU YOUNG NIM, Director of  Durebang (My Sister's Place, a center in 
 Uijongbu,  near Seoul, for women working around U.S.  bases) and longtime 
 women's and human rights activist.  As a collaborator on the film project, 
 she will  provide historical and political contexts   for the film, and 
 will discuss women's organizing.   Durebang is a member of SAFE Korea, the 
 first feminist  coalition in South Korea to promote awareness of  issues 
 related to militarism.  Co-sponsors: Institute for Multiracial Justice;
