DESCRIPTION:Special guest appearance & video screening: "What’s ahead for Venezuela?"
For more than 15 years Lisa Sullivan has dedicated her life to working
in the barrios of Venezuela to preserve traditional indigenous culture and
to implement educational and social programs. Her primary focus is on the
experience and perspective of the poor and their commitment to the
political process. A Maryknoll lay missioner, Ms. Sullivan hosted the
February 2004 Marin Interfaith Task Force delegation to Caracas and
arranged interviews with Vice President Jose Rangel, Assembly Vice
President Noeli Pocaterra, President of the Women’s Development Bank Nora
Castaneda, and Minister of Health Roger Capella. She also facilitated
meetings with clergy members, tour of a model clinic and discussions with
volunteer Cuban doctors living and working in the barrios. A short film
documentary of MITF’s 10-day a delegation has been compiled and edited by
Berkeley videographer Greg O’Toole and will be included in the program.
Lisa has been a guest on President Chavez’ Alo Presidente television
program and will provide an update on Venezuela’s current political
climate, the recent referendum, and the future of the Bolivarian republic.
