 distribution techniques from documentary filmmaker Sam Green, director of 
 the critically acclaimed, Academy Award-nominated film, The Weather 
 Underground, which was picked up for distribution by Shadow Films and 
 played in theaters around the country. It has also screened on PBS’s 
 Independent Lens Series and at the Film Arts, New York Underground, and 
 Sundance film festivals, among others. In 2003 it won the Golden Gate award 
 for best feature documentary at the San Francisco International Film 
 Festival. Green also co-directed Pie Fight ‘69, and The Rainbow Man/John

 Aug. 7, 11 am–5 pm  Lay a solid groundwork for your documentary by 
 learning the essentials of subject-research. Topics include resources for 
 research, concept development, finding the relationship between you, your 
 subject and the audience, preparation for pre-production interviews, 
 finding the best interview subjects, and research symposia. Special 
 consideration given to unearthing difficult-to-find and politically 
 sensitive information. A major theme running throughout the class is the 
 relationship between research and concept development.  Part Two: Doc 
 Distribution  Sun., Aug. 8, 11 am–5 pm  Learn all about documentary 
 distribution from a seasoned professional. Green discusses what his 
 distribution plans, goals, and strategies were for the The Weather 
 Underground. He offers his experience  what he learned from each of his 
 previous films to help improve exposure and distribution possibilities for 
 independent films. Green talks about television and theatrical distribution 
 issues; working with a distributor vs. self-distribution; strategies for 
 getting your work and message out to the world.  \n
