** Uprooted: Refugees of the Global Economy Tuesday, July 27th 8pm A
compelling documentary about how the global economy has forced people to
leave their home countries. This video presents three stories of immigrants
who left their homes in Bolivia, Haiti, and the Philippines after global
economic powers devastated their countries, only to face new challenges in
the United States. All contributions will go to NNIRR ** The Fall of the
I-Hotel Tuesday, August 31st 8pm This film brings to life the battle for
housing in San Francisco. The brutal eviction of the I-Hotel's tenants in
1977 ended a decade of spirited resistance. Almost 20 years since the
International Hotel's demolition, the former site of the heart of
Manilatown and home to more than 10,000 people in the 1950s, is still
vacant. Many of its surviving elderly residents still seek low-cost
replacement housing. This film resonates very clearly as homelessness
becomes a fact of life in many cities today. All contributions will go to
 the Chinese Progressive Association
 ----------------------------------------------------------- Featured
Organizations: National Network of Immigrant & Refugee Rights
http://www.nnirr.org NNIRR is a national organization composed of local
coalitions and immigrant, refugee, community, religious, civil rights and
labor organizations and activists. It serves as a forum to share

and to develop and coordinate plans of action on important immigrant and
refugee issues. Chinese Progressive Association http://www.cpasf.org The
Chinese Progressive Association is a grassroots membership-based
organization that empowers the Chinese community in the San Francisco Bay
Area and promotes justice and equality for all people. CPA's campaigns and
programs improve the living and working conditions of low-income immigrants
and give ordinary community members a stronger voice in the
decision-making processes that affect them. For more information,
