DESCRIPTION:SUPPORT BEN DAVIS WORKERS! Who: Supervisor Daly, Ben Davis workers,
UNITE-HERE, Chinese Progressive Association, Sweatshop Watch and other
labor and community supporters When:	Tuesday, July 20th, 1 PM rally 2PM
meeting Where: San Francisco City Hall, Civic Center Side (Polk between
McAllister and Fulton) Since the 1930s, Ben Davis has been a union factory
that supported its workers. The MAJORITY of the workers have worked there
over 25 years. Now in its third generation, owner Frank Davis wants to
break his own family traditions by cutting his workers’ benefits. Ben
Davis workers have been in negotiations with the owner since November 2003.
The owner has insisted on concessions in health & welfare, vacations,
holidays and sick days using the new San Francisco minimum wage as
justification. The workers have rejected the company’s proposals and now
have been threatened with the closure of the plant and moving the work out
of the country. The company has also terminated health care for some
workers to threaten others into accepting the cuts. Now San Francisco
Supervisor Chris Daly has authored a resolution supporting the rights of
Ben Davis workers and defending the intent of our new minimum wage law to
raise wages. The resolution will come to a vote at the next Board of
Supervisors meeting. Ben Davis workers need your help and support. They
will walk off their job on Tuesday, July 20, 2004, in protest of the
company’s bargaining tactics. They need labor and community support at
the rally and the Board of Supervisors meeting to follow. Call UNITEHERE!
