DESCRIPTION:International Labor Panel: Labor, War, and Repression  July 18 (Sunday) 
 5:30 p.m. Free  ILWU Local 10 (Henry Schmidt Room)  400 North Point St. 
 (near Mason St.), San Francisco  Join the Doro-Chiba Railway workers from 
 Japan, KCTU Seoul unionists from Korea, and others from around the world as 
 reports are made on the use of the war as a pretext to eliminate labor and 
 democratic rights for transportation workers.  In Japan the government is 
 seeking to militarize all transportation workers, and in response to these 
 assaults many Japanese unions are organizing against the repressive 
 legislation which would destroy their right to strike and organize.  Korean 
 workers also face increased attacks on their democratic labor rights. 
 Activist local leaders of the KCTU have committed suicide in protest of 
 this labor repression. The Korean government is now allowing employers to 
 legally seize the personal homes and property of unionists who go on 
 strike.  In the U.S. the government is seeking to require biometric 
 identity cards for twelve million transportation workers, allowing 
 companies to screen out union activists and leaders.  Co-sponsored by the 
 Million Worker March Committee and ILWU Local 10.
