DESCRIPTION:The third annual Berkeley Peace Lantern Ceremony commemorates the victims
of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki on Aug. 6 and 9, 1945, and
all victims of war. It's a beautiful, family-friendly, participatory event.
Come decorate lantern shades for floating on the lagoon at sunset, hear
Japanese flute and drum performances, sing peace songs, hear greetings from
the mayors of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, fold origami peace cranes, and more.
Free. Sponsored by an array of local organizations including Berkeley Peace
and Justice Commission, ProgressivePortal.org, Women for Peace, Buddhist
Peace Fellowship, many others. Volunteers needed from now through August 7.
