DESCRIPTION:JAZZ AT INTERSECTION continues on Tuesday July 20, 2004 at 8:00 PM with
Howard Wiley Vocal X, a new ensemble directed by local saxophone powerhouse
Howard Wiley featuring two vocalists - legendary Bay Area jazz singer Faye
Carol and exciting young scat vocalist Lorin Benedict, who has recorded
with Steve Coleman. This is our 56th Jazz At Intersection concert since
the series' inception in 1999. The mission of Jazz At Intersection is to
create a place where jazz is the priority, where we are able to promote
dialogue about the art form, where we explore the jazz language with our
community, and where emerging and experienced composers are encouraged to
experiment with new forms. Understanding the absence of a monolithic jazz
paradigm, we have consistently presented a multiplicity of styles,
cadences, and rhythms that constitute a contemporary definition of jazz.
We invite our community to join us over the course of successive Jazz At
Intersection performances to directly and intimately experience the
incredible diversity that America's indigenous art form represents. Howard
Wiley delves deep into jazz tradition and states his influences while
looking to the future and beyond. His sense of rhythm, cadence, texture,
and vigor belies his age of just twenty-four. Primarily influenced by
Charlie Parker and John Coltrane, Wiley’s sound and style is full-bodied,
hearty, and robust. You can hear the history of late twentieth century
jazz through Wiley’s saxophone. There is a $12-$15 sliding scale
 admission.\n https://www.indybay.org/newsitems/2004/06/25/41233.php
