As the nation honors the life and death of former President Ronald Reagan this Friday many of us will be remembering and mourning the deaths of the tens of thousands of victims of Ronald Reagan's policies during his administration. During the 1980's the Reagan Administration sponsored and directed brutal military regimes in Guatemala, El Salvador, and Honduras that repressed, tortured and murdered tens of thousands of their own citizens using military weapons and training directly from the United States. Reagan was also notorious for channeling millions of dollars to the Contras in Nicaragua, much of it illegally obtained by selling arms to Iran and crack cocaine to youth in poor U.S communities. He called the contras "Freedom Fighters" but they primarily engaged in the rape, torture and murder of civilians and the destruction of the country's agriculture and economic infrastructure which left 30,000 people dead in this already impoverished and war torn Central American nation. Join as we honor and mourn the innocent people killed under the Reagan's Administration's so-called campaign for "Democracy and Freedom" and remember the real legacy of devastation that Reagan's brutal campaigns left on the people of Central American.
