DESCRIPTION:The Society of California Pioneers presents  First Thursday Lecture Series  
 Thursday, July 1st, join Susan Snyder as she tells the story of the 
 California grizzly, that intelligent, majestic creature that symbolizes 
 freedom and untamed nature. Ms. Snyder will tell us stories from Native 
 Americans, explorers, vaqueros, forty-niners, and naturalists, among 
 others, as well as share images collected from sources ranging from 
 settler's diaries to fruit crate labels. The lecture takes place at The 
 Society of California Pioneers, in San Francisco and will begin with a 
 reception at 5:30 with the lecture from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.  On the day of the 
 lecture, the museum will stay open until 6 p.m.  Lecture Dates: July 1, 
 August 5, September 2, 2004  Lecture Time:  6 - 7 pm  Lecture admission $5
