DESCRIPTION:In March of this year, union housekeepers at the Comfort Suites Hotel in  
 South San Francisco were terminated from their jobs- their work farmed out  
 to a housekeeping temp agency, Jani-King of California. These housekeepers, 
  all immigrant women, had been working at the hotel for years (some as many 
  as 18). They were paid a living wage, recieved health benefits and were 
 able  to collectively bargain with their employer for their union 
 contracts. As a  result, many have been able to buy homes, send their kids 
 to college and  provide a decent lifestyle for themselves and their 
 families.  Today, without their jobs, kicked out on the street in a bleak 
 economy, some  risk losing homes, are unable to pay college tuitions, 
 cannot provide health  care, rent, or even food for their families.  This 
 particular injustice, union workers being replaced by non-union workers  in 
 the midst of their contract, has never before occurred in this county. It  
 is the task of this community to both fight for the workers' jobs and to  
 send a strong message to the industry- this behavior is not acceptable in  
 San Mateo County.  Please join us this Friday, May 28, from 4:30 to 5:30 at 
 the Comfort Suites  in South San Francisco (121 East Grand Avenue) for a 
 picket to support the  former workers of the hotel. Your support is crucial 
 in affirming this  community's support for its workers and sending a strong
