DESCRIPTION:Nothing Really Happens is a beautifully written, unflinching story of three
women: Tillie Hirsch, an elderly Holocaust survivor; Paula Brownell, a
repressed college professor fascinated by striptease; and Carmela Petrelli,
a Bronx-born stripper for whom “tits changed everything.” The
three have an intimate "hitchhiker-style" journey on which they
collectively experience stripping and learn that while nothing really
happens, some things really happen. Three very different women’s stories
intertwine, in a painful and joyous journey of discovery in which they (and
we) learn that second chances – and new stories – are possible. The
film stars Judith Malina, the internationally acclaimed actress and pioneer
of radical theatre whose movie credits include Dog Day Afternoon, The
Addams Family, Enemies: A Love Story and Household Saints. Nothing
Really Happens won First Prize for Narratives at the Director’s View Film
Festival in February and will be awarded the Grand Festival Special
Recognition Award by the Berkeley Video and Film Festival in October 2004.
