DESCRIPTION: Come hear about a new Environmental Human Rights Campaign in India
Pollution is a human rights violation. The 1984 Union Carbide disaster in
Bhopal, India, has established beyond doubt the graveness of the human
rights violations among communities impacted by pollution. The disaster
demonstrated the vulnerability of communities that are left in the dark
about the toxic chemicals and processes in their neighborhood factories.
Many Bhopals in slow motion continue and grow in India today with the
invasion of industries into previously sustainable communities. The
Community Environment Monitoring project recently launched in India aims to
research, test and deploy simple, inexpensive and accurate tools and
practices to allow pollution-impacted communities to monitor their
environment and campaign for positive change using this information. With
Madhu Dutta, Ann Leonard (GAIA) and Denny Larson (GCM) Cost: Free. \n
