DESCRIPTION:The Oxygen Collective proudly presents . . . The Fire and Forests Roadshow
2004 Save the Wild Siskiyou! This April, a merry band of performers,
activists and trainers known as the Oxygen Collective will climb aboard
their forty-foot biodiesel bus and travel the West Coast for the 2004 Fire
and Forests Roadshow. The trip will include 15 stops from San Francisco,
CA to Bellingham, WA. Expect live music and laughter, action video and
information. Fire has become the latest government excuse to log our
precious public lands. The issue has gone critical in Southern Oregon with
the Bush proposal for the largest timber sale in modern history! From the
heart of the world's most diverse conifer forest, there is a plan that
would fill a line of loaded log trucks bumper to bumper from Mexico to
Canada. The big lie known as the Biscuit Fire Recovery Plan is the
greatest threat the Siskiyou Wild Rivers area has ever known. In the face
of these poisonous lies, the O2 Collective appears on the scene like a
truth serum for the befuddled. They are bringing evidence, science and
spirit to the issue of fire in the forest. In their wake they will leave a
trail of people informed, inspired and empowered to protect the land we
all love. See the calendar below for their Chico Events! MONDAY, MARCH
29TH A member of the collective will be interviewing live on KZFR on Jim
Brobeck's Dialogues from 11:30-12:00. FRIDAY, APRIL 2ND The Oxygen
Collective will be presenting a multi-media event with action video,
music, and speakers on CSU campus, Ayres 120 from 7-9pm. SATURDAY, APRIL
3RD This group of traveling activists and musicians will bring their
energy into Downtown Chico as their grand finale. FARMERS
MARKET 9am-1pm: Tabling, information and fun and check out the groups
 grand biodiesel bus! DOWNTOWN PARK
PLAZA 12pm-4pm: Live Music, Trainings and Workshops! You are guarenteed
to be inspired! Workshops will vary from the forest fire ecology to
independent media to direct action in the age of the Patriot Act. Read
below for summaries: Forest Policy Under the Bush Administration: The
Healthy Forest Restoration Act, Tongass National Forest Logging and a
rollback of the "Roadless Rule" are just some of the changes that could
have long lasting effects on public lands integrity. Economics of
Federal Lands Logging: The Canadian Softwood Agreement, federal
subsidies, indirect costs and benefits all make the public lands logging
equation a case study in government mismanagement. Siskiyou:
Diversity and Threats to a Unique Bioregion: Unique geology, a high level
of endemism, wild rivers and the most diverse conifer forest in North
America make this an area of special importance. A proposal for the
largest timber sale in modern history is just one of the threats facing
this amazing place. Direct Action in the Era of the Patriot Act: The
days of holding hands and singing have given way to technical blockading
and covert actions. Meanwhile, political repression of activists is on a
steep rise. Ecofeminism in the Forest Defense Movement: Empowered women
and newly aware men have changed the face of a good ol' boys movement, but
there is lots of work still to be done. The Independent Media Movement:
As media content continues to concentrate into fewer corporate empires, a
burgeoning people's movement has shown that it too can be the media.
Western Forest Fire Ecology and Policy: Pre-human and indigenous fire
regimes have been replaced by a century of fire suppression and logging.
Now "restoration" and "thinning" are the watchwords of public lands
management policy. For more info: EARC office at 898-5676, and check out
