DESCRIPTION:See also: http://laborcenter.berkeley.edu/connecting/ CONNECTING CAMPUS
AND COMMUNITY Join us in coming together March 12-14, 2004 at UC Berkeley
for the first annual “Connecting Campus & Community: California Student
Labor Teach-In!” The teach-in has three primary goals: * education
to raise awareness about critical social justice and labor movement issues
     * strategizing for effective action and successful campaigns *
skills training to optimize our organizing and research This unique
gathering challenges the “pale, male, and stale” image of the labor
movement in welcoming and valuing the diverse and critical contributions of
all our communities and struggles. We invite students, workers, academics,
organizers, and members of our communities of all backgrounds and
orientations to come and help create this active, powerful space for
solidarity and collective action. Points of Vision and Expectation: *
make the labor movement “ours” challenge the “pale, male,
stale” diverse, progressive, inclusive * engage on global
level with local level links * highlight innovative organizing
campaigns * make plans for future work together * state
atmosphere: imminent roll back of labor progress UC
budget will be cut again * focus on a tangible victory *
inclusion of other campuses: UCs, CSUs, Indep. Us, Community
Colleges, High Schools… * coalition building * leadership
development & action-oriented & coalition building * build movement to
have voice in student government * create student labor action
coalition project * be more on the offensive * conference is just
the beginning piece of a larger puzzle & vehicle to push us
forward * recruit to be part of labor movement add to the
future, next generation of work & activists
