DESCRIPTION:     Professor Ernest Wamba dia Wamba is a committed intellectual, 
 historian-philospher, and activist for sustained peace, democracy, 
 transparency, and pro-people politics in Africa.  He is a leader of the 
 non-militarist RCD-Kisangani which opposed the dictorial regime of 
 L.D.Kabila and has participated in all phases of the Inter-Congolese 
 political negotiations which led to the signing of the Pretoria accord in 
 2002.  He currently serves as a member of the Transitional Senate and is 
 Vice-President of the Political, Adminstrative and Legal Permanent 
 Commission engaged in drafting laws for Senate discussion and adoption.     
   A leading theoretician on the Palaver, a Congolese cultural form of 
 nonviolent conflict resolution, Wamba created the Ota Benga Center for 
 Human Diginity in Kinshasa.       As an academic, his theoretical work 
 focuses on the state, the politics of emancipation, and world history and 
 revolution.       Vukani Mewethu is a nonprofit multiracial choir which 
 sings the freedom songs of Southern Africa, primarily of South Africa, in 
 Zulu, Xhosa, Sethu, and English, and also gospel, spirituals, labor, and 
 civil rights songs linking peoples in the U.S., South Africa, and around 
 the world.       The event is sponsored by the Ota Benga International 
 Alliance for Peace in the DR Congo and Priority Action Network.  Suggested
