DESCRIPTION:Come hear a presentation by Thami Ka Plaatjie, former Secretary General of
the Pan Africanist Congress and acting Secretary General of the South
African Reparations Movement speaking on the worsening conditions for
African people in his country:\n·\nAccording to official statistics, the
poverty of the African masses in South Africa (Azania) has increased by 19%
and the wealth of whites has increased by 15 % over the last five years.
\n·	14% of African people own land in South Africa, land that own is
inhospitable while 86% of all arable land in South Africa is still firmly
in the hands of whites.\n·	25% of African people in South Africa are
living in squatter camps with no running water or toilets and 32% of people
in South Africa are unemployed. \n·	25% of African people in South Africa
are infected with HIV/AIDS. Of the 10,000 African youths who are released
from prison monthly, nearly 40% of them come out HIV positive. \n\n	With
this terrible reality for African people in South Africa (Azania), Ka
Plaatje asks, “Where is President Mbeki’s promise of ‘a better life
for all’?”	\n	\nThami Ka Plaatjie has a long history of involvement and
leadership in the African freedom movement. From 2000 – 2003 Thami Ka
Plaatjie was the elected National Secretary General of the Pan Africanist
Congress, one of the organizations recognized with United Nations NGO
status in the movement against apartheid in South Africa. He founded the
Pan Africanist Student Organization in 1980 and he also served in the labor
desk of NACTU, the second largest Trade Union in South Africa.\n\n
